FreeTree

Privacy Policy

FreeTree is a map of publicly accessible fruit and nut trees, built on open municipal tree registers. It is designed to be useful without an account and without tracking you.

Who is responsible

FreeTree is operated by Avenzasoft UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Pinneberger Straße 8a, 22880 Wedel, Germany. Managing director: Aymen Mokhtari.

What the app collects

A device identifier. When you first open FreeTree the app generates a random identifier on your phone. It is not your advertising ID and it is not linked to your name. It exists so the trees you save and the reports you send belong to something. You can clear it by uninstalling the app.

Your location, when you ask for something nearby. The Explore screen and the distances shown beside a tree need to know roughly where you are. Your coordinates are sent to our server to answer that query and are not stored against your device. The map itself does not need your position — it loads whatever area you are looking at.

What you contribute. If you report a tree — that it is ripe, already picked, the wrong species, or new — we store that report, any note or photo you attach, and the tree it concerns, together with your device identifier so the same report is not counted twice. These reports are public: they are what makes the map better for everyone.

Trees you save, so your list is still there on your next phone if you sign in.

A notification token, only if you turn notifications on. It lets us wake your phone when a tree you saved comes into season, and nothing else.

If you choose to sign in

An account is optional. FreeTree works fully without one; signing in exists so your saved trees and reports survive a new phone.

If you sign in we store your email address or phone number, and a display name if you give one. Signing in with Google or Apple tells us only the stable identifier those services issue plus the email address you approve — we never see your password.

What we do not do

Services we rely on

Our servers are located in Germany.

How long we keep things

Reports and their photos stay for as long as the map does — they are the shared record the app is built on. Saved trees and account details are kept until you delete your account or ask us to remove them. Notification tokens are discarded when they stop working or when you turn notifications off. Location coordinates sent to answer a nearby query are not retained after the answer is returned.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, object to how we use it, or receive it in a portable form. Write to the address above and we will answer within one month. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

FreeTree is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date below is when this version was published.
